Customer Service

New connections

Five steps from a wired building to a live supply — usually within one to two business days of payment.

Before you apply

Applying for a new connection is a simple process. If you have recently built a house and wish to have electricity connected, there are five steps to follow. Applications for commercial and industrial premises generally follow the same process.

For most individual domestic applications we will normally provide a single-phase connection unless otherwise requested. Because the energy usage for commercial and industrial properties is sometimes large enough to require additional capacity, such as a transformer, those applications should be made well in advance of the date the supply is required. Please provide sufficient details about the electrical equipment and appliances you intend to use so that we may adequately meet your needs.

An application can be completed remotely by text, call or WhatsApp, by email, or in person at any LUCELEC administrative office in Castries, Rodney Bay and Vieux Fort. LUCELEC will seek to provide your electricity supply within 1–2 business days of payment.

The process

Five steps

Commercial and industrial applications follow the same process, but should be made well in advance if additional capacity is needed.

  1. Get the wiring inspected

The house must be wired by a licensed electrician and inspected by the Electrical Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services & Transportation. A Chief Electrical Inspector's Certificate of Approval will be issued if everything is in order. The certificate must be presented at the time of application.

    Bring with you

    • Chief Electrical Inspector's Certificate of Approval
  2. Bring photo identification

All applicants must present a valid National photo ID. Saint Lucian nationals are advised that passports are not preferred, because LUCELEC needs to capture both picture identification and the NIC number. Non-nationals may use a valid passport together with an NIC card.

    Bring with you

    • National ID card or new driver's permit
    • Or, for non-nationals, a passport and NIC card
  3. Prove you can occupy the property

A land register no older than 30 days. An applicant with a Deed of Sale must prove legal ownership by having an attorney complete a company-provided Move In Authorization Attorney-At-Law Form, with the Deed of Sale attached. Renters are provided with a Move In Authorization Form for the owner to complete and sign.

    Bring with you

    • Land register, no older than 30 days
    • Or a Move In Authorization Form, signed by the owner with a copy of their ID
  4. Pay the security deposit

A security deposit based on an estimated two months of consumption must be paid at the time of application. The deposit will be retained by LUCELEC and accrue interest. The deposit and interest are refundable once the service is no longer required and all charges due are paid.

  5. Pay for a line extension, if one is needed

If your premises are more than one hundred and thirty-five feet (135 ft) from the nearest pole on the distribution system, the existing line may need to be extended. The cost of extending the distribution line will be estimated, and you will be asked to pay this cost in addition to your deposit.
