About LUCELEC

Operations & Network

Twelve departments, one power station, a solar farm and seven substations — the machinery behind every unit of electricity on the island.

The network

What carries the power

Generation

Cul De Sac Power Station

87.4MW installed, 86.2 MW available

The sole power plant on the island, commissioned in 1990. Three MAK units and seven Wärtsilä units — four at 9.3 MW and three at 10.2 MW.

Serves All seven substations

Solar

La Tourney Solar Farm

3MW

Opened in 2018 at Vieux-Fort. Nearly 15,000 panels generating about 7 million units a year and displacing roughly 300,000 gallons of fuel.

Serves About 5% of national demand

The seven substations

  • Cul De Sac

To improve reliability every substation is supplied via two sets of three-phase 66 kV lines. In that way if there is a problem in one set of lines, the substation can be supplied via the other set.

Technical Division

Who keeps the power on

Five departments generate the electricity, move it across the island, and watch the system around the clock.

Generation

Produces a reliable and cost-effective supply of electricity, operating the Cul De Sac Power Station and the La Tourney solar farm.
