About LUCELEC
Sustainability
Lowering the carbon intensity of every unit we generate — and of how we run the network that delivers it.

What we have done
Four pieces of work
- Solar generation
- The 3 MW farm at La Tourney came online in April 2018, building on grid-tied rooftop solar PV work LUCELEC has supported since 2009.
- Fuel efficiency
- The old Union and Vieux Fort plants yielded 16 units of electricity per gallon of diesel. With the newer and larger engines at Cul De Sac, particularly those commissioned in the last few years, fuel efficiency is now 19.4 units per gallon.
- Smart metering
- Advanced metering infrastructure has reached 99.99% of customers. Replacing electro-mechanical meters with smart meters will allow automated meter reading, remote disconnections and re-connections, and pre-paid metering.
- Distribution automation
- Auto reclosers and remotely controlled switches let System Control reconfigure the network when faults occur, cutting outage length and response times.

Targets, and the SDGs
LUCELEC is preparing its sustainability content — environmental performance reported in full, the renewable pipeline, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals the Company reports against.
Where the Company is going on this sits with SBP2035, whose first pillar is sustainability.
